The Liberty Ranch Booster Club filed a civil complaint Thursday, March 20, against one of its board members and other parties for allegedly embezzling more than $200,000 from the club's treasury, according to a press release issued by the booster club.

It is unclear who is being accused of embezzling the funds. The Galt Herald was not immediately able to obtain the civil complaint. According to the release, the missing funds were found after an audit. The club had taken steps in recent years to shore up its financial security, including adding an executive clerk.

After discovering the missing funds, the club notified Galt Joint Union High School District administration and local police, who opened an investigation into the matter.

According to the release, the complaint is being filed to help recover the funds raised by volunteers to benefit Liberty Ranch High School's athletic programs. The funds are raised through concession sales and additional fundraisers organized and held by the club.

The club has since taken steps to secure the club's financial accounts "to protect current and future transactions," according to the release.

"The Club's leadership appreciates the District's assistance and will work closely with the administration, coaches, staff, parents and students to rectify the situation," the club stated in the press release.

District Superintendent Anna Trunnell released a statement announcing the district will review its policies and procedures for school-connect organizations, including booster clubs, to help prevent further incidents.

"While the Booster Club's funds are not the District's direct responsibility, the District will consider any assistance needed by the Sports Booster Club so that students are not affected," the statement read.
