GALT, CA (MPG) - The Kiwanis Club of Galt recently held its annual Bark Park event at the Galt dog park it helps to sponsor, bringing together the community for a day of canine fun and fellowship. This year’s event featured 22 four-legged contestants competing in various categories including best in show, best costume, owner look-alike and best behaved.

“Kiwanis Club of Galt loves its partnership with the City of Galt in providing a fabulous place for dogs and dog owners to come together and enjoy the Kiwanis Bark Park,” said Dana Edlund, president of Kiwanis Club of Galt. “Our annual event aims to celebrate that in a fun way with vendors, contests and more!”

The event showcased the collaborative spirit of local organizations, with significant support from Valley High School’s Key Club and the Galt Rotary Club. The Key Club students operated an activity booth where children could color, assisted with the photo booth to ensure whole families could be included in pictures, helped to judge the dog contests and pitched in with setup and cleanup duties. Meanwhile, Rotary Club members provided valuable assistance with event setup, cleanup and the events.

The success of the annual celebration reflects the strong partnerships between local service organizations. Each year, the event continues to grow, drawing more participants and expanding its offerings. This year’s festivities included a photo booth where owners could capture memories with their beloved pets, along with pup cups and an assortment of treats for the canine attendees.

Contest winners received impressive prize baskets filled with dog toys, treats and accessories. The variety of participants was remarkable, ranging from tiny puppies to senior dogs, shy pups to social butterflies, creating an inclusive atmosphere for dogs of all personalities and sizes.

Several local businesses participated as vendors, including Lodi Mobile Pet Grooming and Camp Bow Wow, providing services and information to attendees. The SPCA brought four adoptable dogs to the event, hoping to connect them with loving families. Among the adoptable pets was a seven-week-old puppy that had been abandoned and was seeking a forever home.

“Thank you to everyone who worked together to make the event happen, including the Valley High Key Club and Galt Rotary,” Edlund continued. “Kiwanis Club of Galt would like to extend an especially big thanks to all who attended. We had big dogs and little dogs, outgoing pups and shy pups, senior dogs and puppies. We even had four adoptable dogs who had hoped to find families of their own. It was a fantastic day.”

The annual Bark Park event has become a beloved tradition in Galt, celebrating the special bond between pets and their families while strengthening community connections. The Kiwanis Club of Galt’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and celebrating this community resource demonstrates the positive impact that service organizations can have on local quality of life.
